The 10 Funniest Current TV Shows
published October 25, 2009

About 97% of TV is horrible. About 20% of that is boner commercials. Sometimes, just sometimes, we get an enjoyable show. Even rarer, we get a show that makes us laugh. We cling to these shows like we cling to a girlfriend that's way too hot for us. We stay loyal and watch them. If we can't watch them we DVR them. Currently, there are maybe 15 shows that will probably make you laugh. Here are the 10 funniest TV shows, in my opinion.

My apologies to: The Office, My Name is Earl, Tosh.0, any unknown British comedy out there, Aqua Teen Hunger Force

Futurama Cast
#10 - Futurama - Futurama has easily overtaken The Simpsons as Matt Groening's superior creation. Taking place a thousand years n the future, the plot opportunities are endless. The sense of humor also ranges from toilet humor and bad puns, to mathematical humor and black comedy. The pure range of different types of laughs is amazing. Comedy Central just ordered 26 more episodes that we will happily be watching starting next year.

Modern Family Cast
#9 - Modern Family - I started watching the show purely for Al Bundy (Ed O'Neil). I was expecting a stupid show where at least I could see Al Bundy be funny again. I was pleasantly surprised, because not only was the grandpa version of Al Bundy funny, the "cool dad" character played by Ty Burrell absolutely stole the show. The gay couple was annoying as hell, but actually got a couple laughs out of me in the latest episode. Here's hoping this show keeps evolving and stays funny.

Robot Chicken
#8 - Robot Chicken - The brainchild of Seth Green and Matthew Senreich only airs late night on Adult Swim, but it's definitely worth checking out if you haven't seen it. It utilizes action figures and claymation and parodies pop culture from my heyday. Each episode is a wild rumpus ride of dorky proportions, and I appreciate it for that. They even did a 30 minutes special on Star Wars alone, and it was amazing.

South Park Cast
#7 - South Park - If you don't know by now, Trey Parker and Matt Stone are comedic genius's. They continue to push the envelope of what acceptable humor is, and they continually get away with it. Just when you think South Park is getting stale, they come up with absolute gems like the Kanye 'Gay Fish' episode. They've humbled the cockiest of Hollywood stars over and over again (Jennifer Lopez, Russell Crowe, Kanya West). Hopefully we are treated with another decade of South Park awesomeness!

Family Guy Cast
#6 - The Family Guy - The Family Guy overcame a tumultuous past, being cancelled by FOX - twice. After they got cancelled, the soaring DVD sales and high ratings on Adult Swim prompted FOX to take it back. I doubt we've seen the best of The Family Guy yet, because of the FOX executives demanding that Seth MacFarlane 'tune it down.' Nonetheless, we've already seen "American Dad," and a Family Guy spin-off "The Cleveland Show."

Daily Show Cast
#5 - The Daily Show - I've been a religious watcher of The Daily Show for almost a decade now, and Jon Stewart shows no signs of relenting. The show is based of observations of the ridiculous news outlets and politicians that feed us garbage. Until that garbage ends, we'll always have the Daily Show to point out the ridiculous for us. Jon Stewart has had pressure to try to become a legitimate politician, but as far as I'm concerned, he's going to be the Daily Show anchor until he's totally tapped.

Colbert Report Lynndie
#4 - The Colbert Report - I put the Colbert Report just a tad bit over The Daily Show because I get more sustained laughter from Colbert. His conservative alterego is amazing, and those rare occasions when he breaks character are even more hilarious. His satirical look at the right wing is dead on, and with friends of the show like Jeff Goldblum and Tim Meadows, there's no telling how far Colbert will go.

Sunny Philadelphia blood
#3 - It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia - I was told by multiple people that this show was a 'must watch.' After reluctantly agreeing to start watching it from the beginning, I was pleasantly surprised and shocked. This show was downright hilarious. It took on every single taboo subject there was, and embraced it. The gang, despite being depicable misfits, were extremely likeable, and their antics were legendary. I became a believer, and on the 5th season, it still delivers the hits.

Curb Your Enthusiasm
#2 - Curb Your Enthusiasm - Larry David was one of the minds behind 'Seinfeld,' the funniest show of all time. This time, he's on HBO, where everyone can swear. Somehow you feel sympathy for this rich, balding, jew. This is one of the few shows that I will buy whole seasons of. Hell, after watching several episodes in a row, I started acting like him, and I must say - it's quite liberating.

Kenny vs. Spenny
#1 - Kenny vs. Spenny - The concept is simple. Two friends have a competition each week and the loser receives a humilation. Kenny is a diabolical, evil genius, and Spenny is a righteous, neurotic, paranoid do-gooder. You may not have seen this show as it is on Canadian TV and late night on Comedy Central sometimes, but this is by far the funniest show I've ever seen. I've been reduced to tears and had a hard time breathing because I was laughing so hard. I recommend doing everything you can to get your hands on this show.
